Spatial remodeling

A gallery and café for the Cal Poly Architecture Department, built to push interdisciplinary exchange.

Flexible interior galleries take small works while an adjacent outdoor courtyard hosts large-scale installations. Cantilevered walkways and a glass-enclosed elevator improve circulation and keep the levels visually connected.

Photovoltaic shade structures shelter the café terrace, so passive comfort and renewable generation come from the same move. A pivot-hinged door sequence defines the entry and pulls visitors from the street into the building.

The shade structure and PV panel array were driven by a Grasshopper definition, which let the roof geometry and panel rotation resolve together.
